Emma Hapner

My name is Emma Hapner. I studied at the New York Academy of Art to receive my Master’s of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting. I am originally from Indiana and received my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Ball State University. I work primarily in oil paint on canvas to create figurative works, reclaiming the language of classical painting from a woman’s perspective.

I have taught art classes at the David Owsley Museum of Art, the Indianapolis Art Center, and One River School: NY.  I believe that art is one of the most important forms of self-expression and my goal as a teacher is to always help my students feel inspired and empowered by giving them the tools they need to succeed.

To me, the true meaning of love is first freedom, then loyalty. Today, I use my art actively in the community to bring people together, to inspire others, and to expand on the creation and representation of culture as a Dominican Afro-Latina. Art and artists are so important in society because every time we make art we are decorating space and telling history through our creativity.

Hi! My name is Atara Sragow. I studied art at Stern College for Women and Artcenter College of Design, where I received degrees in studio art and illustration design.

Emotions, as our universal language and the common thread that connects us all, form the foundation of my professional endeavors. Drawing inspiration from personal and shared experiences, I strive to find the delicate balance between intensely personal narratives that can resonate with a universal audience.

Working with children has only strengthened my conviction in the power of emotions to bridge gaps and communicate when words fail. It fills me with immense joy to share this language with my students.

Susan Buffolino

Susan has an MBA from Hofstra University. She has 21+ years’ experience in Supply Chain specializing in demand and supply planning, developing and mentoring talent, and maintaining a high level of customer service. Susan also has excellent problem-solving, team building, and leadership skills and she credits a lot of that to the many years she spent as an adolescent drawing, painting, building, decorating, and finding creative outlets in her everyday life.

Art has always held a supporting role in her life. Her original plan was to apply to art school, but when it was time to decide, she did not feel confident enough in her abilities and instead chose the safer route of business school. At 16, her back-up plan was to find a career that would surround her with art and creativity through the business side.

Looking back, 14-year-old Susan would have loved the CAC curriculum if it were available. Luckily, many years later, it found her. The opportunity to offer this program presented itself and now she has the ability to fulfill her dream of taking these classes and giving others the opportunity to enjoy them as well.
